Tropicana Area acquired a roof in 1993 when it was the house stadium for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning from 1993-1996; on the time was known as the Thunder Dome. The Rays moved into the stadium in 1998.
Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Class 3 hurricane, which is designated for wind speeds between 111-129 mph, and the roof on Tropicana Area was constructed to resist winds of 115 mph, as famous by the Tampa Bay Occasions from the crew’s annual media information:
“It’s fabricated from “six acres of translucent, Teflon-coated fiberglass and helps itself with 180 miles of cables linked by struts,” per the crew media information, and was “constructed to resist winds of as much as 115 mph.”
Town of St. Petersburg was reporting no accidents as of this morning.
Replace: The ten,000 individual response crew using Tropicana Area as a base of operations deserted the ballpark previous to the roof’s failure.
